Free guide — 100 conversation starters that actually work
100 conversation starters that actually start conversations
Stop saying "hey." A good opener is a statement plus a question — it gives the other person something easy to react to and invites them to talk about themselves. Below are 100 openers grouped by situation, ranked roughly by how well they work in random video chat.

The framework: statement + question
Weak: "Hi, how are you?" → "Good, you?" → dead end.
Better: "I saw your [something in your room / country flag / accent] and I'm curious — what's the thing you're most proud of from where you're from?" The statement shows you noticed something real; the question invites a story, not a one-word answer.

How to use them in video chat

- Don't interrogate. Every now and then share your own answer — conversation is a trade, not an interview.
- Bad match? Hit Next and try another. You only need one good conversation out of ten.
